This stunning valley is surrounded by towering mountains, cascading waterfalls, and lush forests. It’s the perfect place for adventurous couples looking for a romantic and picturesque location to exchange their vows. You can hike up to one of the many viewpoints for a breathtaking panoramic view – or exchange your vows next to one of the waterfalls for a truly magical experience. Alternatively, there’s a gondola down the valley to take you up the mountain to some spectacular views – and one of the filming locations for a James Bond movie!
Zermatt & The Matterhorn
You know that mountain in Switzerland, the one on the Toblerone bar? That’s the Matterhorn, one of the most iconic mountains in Switzerland – and below lies Zermatt, a picturesque village located at the base of the Matterhorn. This charming village is car-free and feels just as cozy and intimate as you would imagine.

Summer: June to August are the best times for outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and water sports. The weather is warm and sunny, making it the perfect time to enjoy the beautiful scenery and stunning alpine views.

It’s easy to reach Switzerland through a variety of transportation methods. Most couples will opt to fly into Switzerland. The country is well-connected to major cities around the world via its international airports, including Zurich Airport and Geneva Airport. These airports are served by major airlines and offer regular flights to destinations across Europe and beyond.
In addition to air travel, Switzerland also has an extensive train network that connects the country to other parts of Europe. High-speed trains like the TGV and EuroCity operate regular services to major Swiss cities like Zurich, Geneva, and Bern. The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) also operates regional trains that connect smaller towns and villages. With this situation, you’d have your celebration and vows in Switzerland. I always recommend this option to my couples so they can avoid the headache and focus on their elopement!
If you are considering making it legal in Switzerland, it is important to understand the legal requirements and procedures to ensure that your marriage is recognized as legally binding. Here’s how to make it happen.
First and foremost, you and your partner must both be at least 18 years old and legally eligible to marry. If you are not a Swiss citizen, you will need to obtain a “Certificate of No Impediment” from your home country’s embassy or consulate in Switzerland. This certificate states that you are free to marry and must be obtained no more than six months before your wedding date.
Next, you will need to make an appointment with the registry office (Zivilstandsamt) in the canton where you plan to get married. You will need to bring all necessary documents, including your passport or national ID, birth certificate, and Certificate of No Impediment.
